Ships & Dip 4

Well, the Ships and Dip cruise is over… 5 days sailing from Miami to Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico, with Great Big Sea, Barenaked Ladies, Guster, and a bunch of other bands and entertainment…

for those not wanting to suffer through the long version, here is the short version… in the course of 5 days, we went to 9 shows (3 GBS, 2 BNL, 2 Guster, 2 other bands, and one Second City improv show), read 2.5 books each, spent half a day going to and wandering around some Mayan ruins, and had a complete blast, though we realized normal cruises are not for us (we like some relaxation and solitude, which are hard to find on a cruise, and we are nowhere near as into alcohol as most cruise-goers seem to be)…

and for those wanting to suffer through the long version, here ya go :)

Testing out Swype

So I decided to give Swype a try on the phone… For those who have never heard of it, it is basically a theoretically faster way to type on the phone, by just dragging your finger along the keyboard, and it guesses what you meant to type by the letters you go over…i have to say, it is pretty damn amazing…so far it hasn’t gotten anything wrong really, just sometimes asks me to confirm what word I meant…definitely need to keep testing this :)

So the decorator came by…

So, for work, I have been looking into doing a bit of work with skins, for a big case management system I will be spending a large part of the next year building… Now, I will freely admit that I have not had very much experience with building skins/themes, and my CSS skills are not the best (CSS seems to be more of an art than a science, which can be rough at times)… In searching for a bit more information on skins, I came across a program called Artisteer, which is a nice visual interface to build skins/themes for different content management systems, including DNN (which would be what I am likely going to be working in for work) and WordPress (which is what I use here)… I played around with it a bit during the week, and I found it to be really helpful (and I am sure, ripping the build themes apart, I will learn a bit more in the way of CSS and skin building)… so I decided to pick it up :)

And, since I have basically just been using a boxed theme here, I decided the first order of business was cleaning up the place here :) so this is my first pass at a new custom theme… let me know what you think (constructive criticism always welcome :) )

A very tiring, but good week :)

So last week was the first week of our big yoga push… i think it went really well!!

Time to get back on track!

I don’t think i bounced up much, if at all, over the holiday… however, i also didn’t work out at all last week… did a walk on Saturday, and a short walk/run of a dog on Thursday, but that’s it… so need to get back on track, watching what i eat (i didn’t do TOO bad over the holiday, but definitely not perfect :P ), and especially exercising… i am finding, when i go for an extended period of time not exercising, bits start hurting… especially my knees… so need to get back to being active…

still need to sort out the trainer situation… have seen the new trainer a few times, but i can’t say i enjoy it… i think he could be effective, but part of the problem is that i think he is more likely to kick me out of working out at all than not… i just don’t enjoy working out with him, he is too “go go go!” for me… and combined with the fact that they haven’t sorted out the whole billing thing for canceling my last trainer stuff, etc., makes me inclined to try again just canceling altogether, and going it alone…

New Web Host

Well, i am in the process of switching over my web host… always a fun task :) only change at the moment is it went from “kerigan.net” to “www.kerigan.net”… not a big deal, once all the DNS stuff is finished up :) but this host has a TON more functionality than my last host… my last host had a max of 2 databases, which meant there wasn’t a whole lot i could do on it (WordPress took up one, so could only install one other thing, really, and there were more i wanted to play with)… this has unlimited, so WEE!!

now to see if i can find the time/energy/etc. to do the work that i want to do :)

**UPDATE**

ok, this is all so odd… now it is sending all the “kerigan.net” traffic to my new site, and all the “www.kerigan.net” traffic to my old site… so bloody annoying!!! so things may be wacky and not working at the moment :-p

**UPDATE 2**

as i had expected, going to bed and letting everything sort itself out worked… things seem to be back to normal now :)

Stuff

So, as per normal, i haven’t posted too much lately… stuff going on, etc… here’s some of it, at least…

Trainer upgrade!

well, i am almost out of trainer appointments… only have 7 left, so at 2 a week, that runs me to Sept. 20th… with her promotion, sessions go up in price after the end of this month, if not bought prior, so i went ahead and put in for more appointments… i decided, with the change of spinning instructor to one that doesn’t work for me, i’ll bump up to 3 appts with the trainer per week… so another 24 weeks working with her, but Mon., Weds. and Fri. now… so that will hopefully get me where i want to go (been constantly moving in the right direction, just not as quickly as i may have hoped at one point)…

so maybe i will be there for next summer :) all good :)

Last week

well, last week went pretty well :) made it to the gym or yoga all five days for the first time in who knows how long… wasn’t able to make it through the running Wednesday, as my shins/calves were just super tight and unhappy, but the rest i was able to get through fine :)

unfortunately, i may need to change my Friday workout… up until now, my trainer has been teaching the spinning class on Friday nights, and she does it how i like… however, with her promotion, the spinning class is being taken over by a different trainer, and, well, that doesn’t work so well… the new trainer is definitely of the American trainer mindset… so just constantly shouting “More! Faster! Harder!”, with no variation in the routine… this just tends to piss me off, so not a good class for me… i may see about changing my trainer work to do three days a week, we’ll see… i will give the spinning class one more chance, but if it is the same, yeah, that’s all for me…
